Classic Bartender in Bangkok.

BANGKOK - Just when we are getting comfortable with life and have found our routine, life throws us a curve ball. My favorite bartender at the Oriental's Bamboo Bar served his last drink on MAY 31st...31 years after mixing his first at the sometimes painfully famous watering hole.

We have found him a new venue to serve up his classic cocktails in his old world bartender style. The word to the customers is that he chose to retire however, I would guess that he didn't choose anything as the Bamboo Bar is a ghost town and he was willing to be introduced to my friend's restaurant / bar two days after "retiring".

Makes you wonder what people are thinking about...how much does it cost to keep a bartender in Bangkok? Seems that cents won over sense. Anyway, we'll welcome him to our side of town and hopefully enjoy him and his drinks for many years to come.

JUNE 2009

I've decided to begin a blog that is random and not tied to any subject. Just my musings on a range of topics; be it fashion, food, design, politics, the weather, hi-so, lo-so or we-so...will most likely be a photo blog of snapshots I take from life in Bangkok to cities that I visit and people I meet.

So begins The Bangkokian which I have given the subtitle, Bangers and Hash. For those of you who get it...enjoy! For those of you who don't, apologies, this club isn't for you.
